Things to Consider When Choosing an Industrial Hydraulics Specialist

What to Look For When Choosing an Industrial Hydraulics Repair or Remanufacturing Company

Whether you’re buying from them, doing business with them, hiring them or thinking of working for them, it always pays to check a business’s reputation. You want to make sure that the company you’re going to work with has safety measures in place to guarantee the safety of your machinery and its workers.  Selecting the right  company to work on your machinery is a process you have to be smart about. The company with the lowest price isn’t always the right one. In some cases a company will quote a project with a price that is too low accidentally. This happens from time to time in large industrial companies. A company is trying to merge into the industry but does not have enough knowledge to properly bid the job. As you request and RFP you have to protect yourself by looking out for tell-tale signs that this is happening.

ndustrial Hydraulics RepairChoose a One-Stop Shop

When choosing the right industrial maintenance & remanufacturing company, you should rely on a service provider who can provide single source design, fabrication, and installation all in one place. This is something that not all industrial companies can do. This factor makes a huge difference when it comes to quality of work you will receive as well as savings that your service provider will pass on to you.

Doing a little research into the company you want to deal with

When selecting an industrial maintenance company, you want a partner you can rely on with all the services and features your company needs. Research is your secret weapon. Look up any reviews. How long have they been in business? What is thier experience? Do they have references/portfolio? What are thier strengths? Do they perform thier work in house or do they send it out? Do they have emergency services? Do they understand your business model? Do they provide a warranty on thier services?

Use online tools such as, Glassdoor, Hoovers, Better Business Bureau etc. to learn about thier reputation.  Look at thier social media platforms, many times you will see reviews and interaction on Facebook, LinkedIn and more.

Signs Your Hydraulic Pump Could Be Failing

Common Symptoms Of Hydraulic Pump Problems

The pump is probably the component most subject to wear in a hydraulic system, and the one most likely to cause a sudden or gradual failure in the system.

Hydraulic Pump RepairPump trouble is usually characterized by increased noise, increased heat, erratic operation of cylinders, difficulty or inability to develop full output, decreased speed of cylinders or hydraulic motors, or failure of the system to work at all.

Hydraulic pumps are used in almost every type of production system, from plastic mold injection machines to the common conveyor belt. With proper maintenance, most hydraulic pumps will operate smoothly for years, but eventually, the pressure inside these devices will cause failures that need to be addressed as soon as possible. Below are a few signs you should have your pump taken to a machine shop for repairs.

If your system is suffering from any of these symptoms, then that could be a clear sign that you need to repair, clean, or replace parts of your system. Never let your system run if it’s suffering from any of these problems – they are a real indicator that something is wrong and could result in serious damage to your hydraulics.

1. Unusual Sounds

Hydraulic pumps are designed to work quietly, but as parts wear down and seals deteriorate, you may begin to notice unusual noises. Banging and knocking sounds usually indicate air in the system or cavitation caused by insufficient pressure, which can have serious consequences if not corrected immediately. In many cases, these problems can be eliminated by identifying the point at which air is entering the system and taking steps to correct it.

2. Interior & Exterior Leaks

Many hydraulic leaks occur inside the machine, with no exterior signs of a malfunction. However, you may notice decreased performance, sudden drops in pressure, or oil on the outside of the pump in the case of exterior leaks. In many cases, tightening or replacing a valve or seal may correct the problem before it leads to system-wide failure.

3. Failing Seals

If your seals continuously leak and fail, your pump may be operating with a bent or misaligned rod. Depending on the extent of the damage, a skilled machine shop may be able to repair your existing equipment, allowing you to get the most out of your equipment and minimizing costs.

HYDRAULIC & PNEUMATIC SERVICES FOR MINING

WHAT DOES THE FUTURE HOLD FOR THE MINING INDUSTRY

For the first time in several years, the global forecast for mining was looking up, according to a speaker at VMA’s 2018 Market Outlook event, held in August 2017.

John Craynon, senior mining engineer at the Export-Import Bank of the United States, said they are predicting an industry upturn in the next one to two years, even though commodity prices have not been strong. “A number of large projects and expansions will be coming online before 2020,” he noted. “Exploration is growing, particularly in emerging economies, and even in the U.S. for some commodities.”

According to the NMA (National Mining Association) The strength and future health of the U.S. economy depends on mining, which provides the building blocks for the everyday American experience. Mining supports nearly two million high-paying jobs and contributes to economic activity in every state.

EQUIPMENT THE MINING INDUSTRY RELYS ON

Mining EquipmentMany of our most valuable resources are buried deep in the earth. It takes a lot of power to extract these minerals and fuels so that we can use them for our day-to-day lives. Hydraulics make this extraction possible in a safe and efficient manner.

In North America, 85% of our mining is surface mining. Surface mining is a mining process where the overlying mineral layer (called the overburden) is removed, and then the mineral is removed using tunnels or shafts. Surface mining is a two-part process, and both processes involve the power of hydraulics. Powerful earthmovers remove the overburden, allowing access to the minerals. Then gigantic excavators extract the minerals from the earth. Even transporting the materials from the mining site to the processing plant requires hydraulics, as articulating dump trucks are used to collect and transport.

Large scale operations like mining require equipment that is reliable and safe. These hydraulic cylinders are doing very powerful work, and they need to be able to hold up to the pressure put on them. Hydraulic systems and parts are found in a several equipment types including drills, conveyors, loaders, rock bolters, belt crushers and more.

Summit Machine Customer Spotlight

Summit Machine Customer Spotlight

Growing a business into the leading marine and industrial maintenance company in the Southeast is no small feat. Owners David and Pam Faye of Lightning Bay Companies have worked hard to provide customers consistent parts and services since opening their doors in 2004. They handle it all when it comes to hydraulic service: field, shop, systems, components, overhaul, and manufacturing of new components and parts.

When they began looking for an equipment company, Lightning Bay did their fair share of internet research. Offering a range of services including full industrial maintenance and construction, steel erection, and underground utility work meant finding a trusted manufacturer with an extensive and versatile product line that could consistently meet their growing business needs. What ultimately pulled them towards Summit Machine Tool Manufacturing was, “the price and product features,” says David Faye. Plus, “customer support through Summit and our dealer.”

Summit dealer Southern Machine Tool Rebuilders assisted with the installation and most recent purchase of the largest lathe in

Lightning Bay’s shop, the Summit 42-14×360 manual lathe. The length and size of the machine made for a tricky installation. Steve Wendrick of Southern Machine Tool Rebuilders carefully planned and executed the difficult task.

Since trusting Summit with their business in 2012, Faye and his team at Lightning Bay have grown their Summit machine force from one to four machines. They confess their most valuable Summit machine is the 24-4×160 manual lathe. “But all are valuable to the company and our customers,” says Faye. “Without each one, we would not be able to provide the full array of services we currently offer.”

Summit has supplied metalworking solutions to customers for over 60 years. The current product line includes manual and CNC lathes, drills, manual and CNC vertical mills, and vertical and horizontal boring mills. Manual lathes range from 14-inch swings up to 100-inch swings and up to 480 inches between centers. CNC lathes range from 14-inch swings up to 100-inch swings as well, and up to 360 inches between centers. The wide range of machinery helps customers find the exact fit they need, all under one roof.
